I liked using the short-swords/daggers 'cause of the counter kills. Some tend to be pretty cool, and my favourite counter kill is with the dagger. He stabs at the guy's leg/kneecap, and when he falls down to his knees, Altair/Ezio spins while flicking the dagger to a forehand position, and slices the guy's neck, only to then flick the dagger To be fair, the game does a bad job of showing it. It only ever animated the full hookblade. But concept art shows that there is a blade piece, and the hook piece which slides alongside the blade and locks in place when extended. Use it once, and then you have to spend the rest of the day taking it apart, cleaning it, and then putting it together again. There are Youtube videos of people who have assembled hidden blades that work with pulleys and springs, and they extend and retract just fine. Behold the angry wizard putt-putt-putting away. The change in appearance would make a lot of sense, because in AC2 you couldn’t parry and counter with the hidden blade until Leo added the metal bracer to the second hidden blade, while in Brotherhood you can parry and counter with one blade thanks to that sheet of metal. If we are playing as a different assassin ancestor in a future AC game In fact, it would probably be better if Leonardo knew Ezio was an Assassin; what with the nature of the designs he fashions for Ezio and the comments he makes after receiving them in Brotherhood (e.g. "Now I can kill twice the guards" after getting the double hidden blade), I wouldn't be surprised if Leonardo thought Ezio was a serial killer.
